Jane E. Piness, M.D., FACOG
Dr. Piness has a passion for the field of Obstetrics and Gynecology because it offers years
of continuity of care with her patients. It allows her to share with her obstetrical patients
some of the most personal and gratifying moments in their lives. She loves how some of
the newer gynecological minimally invasive surgical procedures can provide her patients
with a better quality of life. She also enjoys guiding her new adolescent gynecological
patients through their first gynecological exams and introducing them to a lifetime of
informed supportive gynecological care.
Dr. Piness was born in Los Angeles, CA. Prior to becoming an Obstetrician-
Gynecologist, Dr. Piness received her undergraduate degree from Williams College in
1981, an M.S. degree in Physiology from Georgetown University Graduate School in
1982 and her M.D. degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine in 1986.
She went on to complete an Ob/Gyn residency at Georgetown University Medical Center
in 1990. During her residency training, she was awarded the Third Year Resident Gyn
Oncology award for academic excellence and the Chief Resident Research Award.
Dr. Piness has been in private practice in the Northern Virginia area since 1990. She
has been recognized as one of the Top Doctors by Washingtonian Magazine from
1993-present and recognized as an Outstanding Physician Specialist by Washington
Checkbook Magazine from 2003-present. She is Board Certified by the American Board
of Obstetrics and Gynecology and a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and
Gynecologists.
Dr. Piness is an active staff member in the Department of OB-GYN at Virginia Hospital
Center. She was selected to appear in Virginia Hospital Center’s television advertising
campaign in 2004 and radio advertising campaign in 2005 and 2007. Dr. Piness enjoys
teaching and supervising Georgetown University Medical Students and Residents. She
holds an academic appointment as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Obstetrics &
Gynecology at Georgetown University Medical Center.
Dr. Piness believes strongly in Public Service. She is currently a Governor appointed
Member of the Virginia Board of Medicine. She has been on this board for the past eight
years and presently is a member of the Executive Committee. She recently served as
the President of the Virginia Board of Medicine. She also enjoys serving as a Volunteer
physician for the Arlington Free Clinic and regularly helps to raise funds for various
cancer charities.
Dr. Piness is married and the proud mother of two teenage girls. She enjoys working out
at the gym, wine tasting, spending time with her friends and traveling.
